Feltmakers' Design Awards 2020

During 2020 I was entered by my college tutor at Hereford and Ludlow College into the prestigious Feltmakers' Design Awards, hosted every year by the Worshipful Company of Feltmakers. With entries coming from the top millinery colleges in Europe, it was an honour to be asked.

Due to COVID19 restrictions the reduced judging panel featured Rachel Trevor Morgan, Noel Stewart and Bill Horsman, all experts in the industry with countless years of millinery expertise under their belts. To be judged by accomplished milliners, was a honour in itself by to ultimately be awarded the Commercial Appeal Award was truly astounding.

As explained by the hosts, the Commercial Appeal Award "is awarded for a design that is easily worn, easily reproduced and easily sold."

"Effie was inspired by the 75th anniversary of VE day. Her headpiece was a modern interpretation of a turban style worn by women who had been drafted. Effie’s headpiece was perfectly on trend. A wide felt headband with a cluster of handmade felt poppies inspired by the remembrance poppy. Beautifully made and extremely wearable."
